“Just a slight pressure over my esophagus. I will tap your hands three times if it gets to be too much. Please. I need this right now.”

It always went the same way. When the noise in his head got to be too much, the only way he could think to shut it all up was to shut it all down. To suffocate the niggling thoughts in his head. He feared the day that they became strong enough to call voices.

“You don’t have to cut off my air. Just limit my intake. If it ever gets to be too much, just stop.”

His brain moved too fast. Usually it was a blessing, a mechanic to be put to good use. Other times, it overtook him, thoughts rushing past before he could do more than acknowledge them, out of his head before he had a chance to absorb them. Before he had time to deal with how dark some of them were.

“Three taps is the signal to let go. Or if you feel it is necessary. Other than that, I want you to squeeze. I need you to hold me, Morgan.”

He had timed the first mention of it, so that Derek would not see the direct correlation. This was not the knee-jerk reaction to a traumatic event. He was already in rehabilitation for knee-jerks. This was a harmless sexual fascination that he had discovered in the course of that event.

And it shut off the voices more effectively than the needle ever had.

“You know how to monitor vital signs. You will be able to tell if I am in trouble. I just want to relax for a bit.”

“By having me do something that could kill you?”

“I trust you not to.”

His hands were not for hurting. They were large and rough and strong, but they were not for destroying. His head was far more effective on that front. These were hands for saving. They looked so wrong wrapped around the skinny neck.

“Do not hesitate to tap out. Do not push yourself farther than you think you can go. That would be something to have to explain to Hotch tomorrow.”

Spencer only ever asked this of him. No other dominances, no power plays, nothing. In defiance of the stereotypes about these kinds of relationships, they switched who “topped” depending on what mood they were in. Spencer did not see him as some sort of stoic dominant. He just asked him to choke him every once in a while.

“If your vision starts to go fuzzy, tap out, I’ll let go, and start taking belly breaths immediately. Don’t breathe high in your chest, you’ll just start hyperventilating.”

He had clearly been timing it. The way he brought it up, so calculatingly casual, spoke of a lot of thought behind the idea. He was pretty sure he could point to its conception on a calendar. But if he needed it, and it wasn’t the drugs, Morgan couldn’t quite deny him some sort of release.

“Don’t take this too far. I love you, Spencer, and I don’t want you to get hurt.”

“I love you, too.”

He didn’t use his name in these times: not Morgan, not Derek, nothing. They both knew why. They were profilers, after all.

Besides, better to go nameless than to accidently slip up and say something neither of them wanted to hear.

“Please. Choke me.”

Choke me, Tobias.
