“I am if you are. Not scared, are you, PC Noakes?”
“I do know my way around a set of handcuffs, dear.”
“And I am quite familiar with the mechanics of medical restraints. Don’t have much call for them, but I have been trained.”
“Alright, then. Since I’m in such capable hands.”
“Cheers. Alright, so how does tomorrow night sound? I can get all of the requisite supplies in the meantime. You can, um, prepare yourself.”
“A good way to spend a honeymoon.”

“So just relax and lie back. Tell me immediately if you have any irritation on your wrists or ankles. I have some salve over here if you need any help. And the maid brought some ice, so if you have any muscle strain, you can take care of that. Do you have any medical allergies, because I have some anti-inflammatories if you need then, and-“
“Chummy. Darling. It’s okay.”
“Yes. Yes, I know. But it’s all a little exciting, isn’t it? A bit devious. Almost as bad as me showing up at the station.”
“I certainly remember that.”
“Oh, you certainly do. Very nice. Now, Peter, lie down and let me go to work.”
“Yes, ma’am.”
“You have to do exactly what I say. I’ve been told I cut an imposing figure before, but never a truly commanding one. Now I get to be in charge. Can you move this arm?”
“Not really.”
“Good. That is the way it is supposed to go. Now to get this on you. No conception tonight, thank you.”
“Camilla, I-“
“Yes, I know. Someday. But I have so much to do right now, with work and the sisters and-“
“Camilla, I was just saying that feels very, very good.”
“Oh. Oh! Goodness, my hand just started going of its own accord.”
“It accords very well.”
“Alright then, Noakes. Now that you’re all ready and in uniform, it is time to put you through your drills.”
“Yes, ma’am.”

“So you are absolutely sure you do not need to stretch out those muscles some more. We cannot have you broken on the job right after your honeymoon.”
